Use these 3 simple steps to begin a transition to your own business

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

We are experiencing interesting times in corporate America. Many businesses are reducing their workforce on Monday and doing “specific or niche” hiring on Wednesday. Depending on which and of this process you get caught in you may still be hearing the call.

Security no longer exists for any of us. Consider the recent market events which have affected CEO’s, millionaires and billionaires alike. No one was immune from either the financial hit or the tremendous amount of bad news that surrounds us.

And yet the siren is wailing in the background. How can I have more control over my destiny? How can I make the move to running my own business? How can I create my own security?

But you say, I can’t leave my job today or I can’t afford to drop everything I’m doing to start a business now. And I say, you probably don’t want to! But there is a way to start today, set the goal and begin to create the foundation that supports you when you are ready to make that move.

How, you ask?

Let’s start with 3 simple steps.

Step one: Decide that you’ve had enough and want to build your own business.

This is critical. It will require using your considerable talent, energy desire and free time to make it happen. If you make the decision, it means you’re willing to take the steps and commit to the actions necessary. You will focus and create the plan that brings you freedom and designs your business. To really do this however you’ll have to dig deep, be honest with yourself and get yourself ready to do whatever it takes.

Step two: You just gotta do your homework.

Many of us who desire to leave corporate and run our own show get there because we have had a bad day and want to jump ship. We know we can do this business management thing better than our boss. We have talent, we demonstrate it every day. We’re leading projects successfully, so we know we can do this! But will someone pay you for that?

I know personally, I thought if I create a digital book or eBook with great information, someone will buy it. The problem is “I” decided people would want it. I didn’t bother to ask who might want it. I would have saved time and money creating it by focusing on what information people want. So do your homework. Who will want and pay for what you have to offer?

Step three: Develop your marketing plan.

How will you let the world know who you are and what you offer? Who will buy your service or product? What will it look like? How will you reach buyers? And so many more questions to ask and answer. Most new business owners focus in a “business plan” and that’s extremely important, but your marketing plan is what makes your business plan viable. If you’re not bringing the products and services to the market that your customers will purchase, you will end up using your business plan to dust off the furniture! Therefore invest your time in understanding your market and delivering solutions to their problems, in the best possible way and they will pay you for it!

Without a doubt there are more steps in this transition plan to help you transition from your full time gig to run your own show. These first few steps are actions you can take, today, while you’re still working in your corporate gig or engaged in other activities to sustain your income, until…

Making the transition is both exciting and exhilarating so use these simple steps to get you started, now!

The Easy Way To Grow Your Business

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

People do business with people. In other words, we do not form relationships with corporate entities, but rather the people within them.

Whether you are promoting your business to the outside world, or promoting your aims and aspirations to your employees, there is really no substitute for direct face-to-face contact. If you do not promote your message face-to-face, how can the recipient gauge your commitment? How important it is to them or be enthused to do something differently?

All business leaders I meet are totally passionate about their business and demonstrate huge commitment to achieving their aspirations and goals. Yet often I find that little of their time is spent directly communicating this to a wider audience. Those that work closely with them may well be inspired by their vision and ability, but those outside their ‘inner circle’ may know nothing about them at all!

The success stories of those that run big businesses are usually the ones who work hard at developing a face-to-face public profile. Richard Branson is an excellent example of how to do this. You may not have Virgin’s PR budget at your disposal, but neither did Richard when he first started out. He did however, from the start, clearly recognise the importance of his relationships and profile with people.

Whether you are a small business, or employ thousands, you will derive the greatest benefit from making yourself visible to all those who can help you to realise your ambitions.

Take every opportunity to address your customers, staff, prospects and partners directly, face-to-face. Doing this on an individual basis is sometimes necessary, to your largest customer for example, but it is far more efficient to address large numbers of people whenever you can.

Do you talk to all of your staff on a regular basis? Do they all know what sort of person they work for? Do they share YOUR dreams and aspirations? If not, it’s pretty obvious what you need to do.

What about the outside world: your customers and prospects? Make yourself available to speak at conferences, trade associations, events and seminars. Don’t go for the hard sell of your product or company, but do go for the hard sell of yourself. Share your expertise and experience and choose a subject to talk about that will provide value to the audience.

Now for the critical bit. If you are a nervous and hesitant public speaker you will do more harm than good. People will not remember what you said; they’ll just remember that you were not very impressive. This is all most people need to ‘opt out’ of this opportunity. It’s so easy to say “I’m useless at giving speeches, it’s best if I don’t do it”. Well, I’m hopeless at golf. Why? Because I’ve only played golf once and I’ve never had any coaching. I’m sure that if I arranged some coaching and then put in some practice, I’d become quite good. I may even enjoy it!

Top 5 Jigsaws for Every User

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

It would be easy to assume that every jigsaw is exactly like the next, however, this couldn’t be more untrue. The are many degrees of jigsaw on the market today and some are definitely better than others. The most avid, most industrious users can find the most superior jigsaws from Bosch, Festool and Makita.

For heavier users Bosch’s 1590EVSK top handle jigsaw is truly one of the most precise and powerful jigsaws on the planet. With a 6.4 amp motor and 500-2800 SPM, the tool is a true master in its cutting niche. Incorporating unique technologies like Bosch’s precision control and one-touch blade change systems, the tool is significantly more precise with essentially zero blade wandering, and fast and simple one-handed blade changes. A blade ejection lever promises no more blisters from groping at hot blades and no more cuts from rushed adjustments. The jigsaw has superior balance and its low vibration design provides the smoothest possible operation. The tool additionally touts a four-position orbital action system which adjusts your blade motion anywhere between super smooth to more aggressive cuts. A dust blower ensures an always clean line-of-site, and with speed and orbital options, craftsmen can compliment tool action to each workpiece or application. Additionally, the 1590EVSK’s tool-less die-cast aluminum footplate encourages bevel cutting, and a no-mar plastic footplate overshoe protects your softer, more delicate surfaces. Ultimately this jigsaw produces incomparably fine results.

Additionally, heavy users and tool aficionados can’t get enough of Festool. Festool became an industry leader for their truly unique innovations and uncanny ability to revolutionize most every tool they get their hands on. From their hometown in Germany, Festool has grown into one of the most recognized manufactures for their superior quality and refinement. In fact, their Trion PSB 300 EQ, among other things, has literally unlocked the secret to splinter-free cuts. This (D handle) jigsaw is built with advanced splinter guards that are designed to be cut by the blade for perfect zero-clearance between the blade and the splinter guard. The resulting cut is immaculately clean requiring little to absolutely no additional finish work. The jigsaw features variable speed control and a variable stroke system allowing craftsmen to match the jigsaws cutting action to material need and also maintain speed under load. This ensures an always sharp and consistent cut. The variable stroke system additionally features four unique stroke settings from straight plunge action and aggressive orbital action for smooth to rapid cuts. The tool also has a surprisingly effective dust extraction system with deflector channels incorporated into the base plate and a built in chip deflector. Dual bevel cutting action allows for numerous working operations and blade changes are fast, easy and tool-free. A carbide guidance system rigidly supports the blade at exactly the pre-set angle – this virtually eliminates blade wandering keeping your blades on exactly the right track. Festool’s Trion PSB 300 EQ is a truly miraculous little jigsaw designed with the quality, precision, and innovation to satisfy a craftsman’s deepest need for power tool perfection.

Festool additionally builds the Trion PS 300 EQ. This is a brilliant machine comparable in every way to its D-handled counterpart, the Trion PSB 300 EQ. Its barrel grip design stays the course like no other jigsaw, and with adjustable carbide-tipped jaws that work with the blade clamping system you can rely on totally optimized blade control. This system keeps the saw’s blade perpendicular to the shoe at all times, even through tight-radius curves, and with variable speed control and a four-setting variable stroke system (for straight plunge or aggressive orbital action) the jigsaw is capable of endless operations. Offering the same ridiculously accurate blade guidance system, impressive dust collection system, a splinter guard (for ultra clean cuts and vastly reduced material tear-out), tool-free blade changes, and bevel cutting action, this tool will fast become your favorite.

For lighter users Makita’s 4341FCT barrel handle jigsaw is more than ideal. With all the features to entice the most seasoned craftsmen and the sophistication to accommodate to every degree of user, the tool is truly a brilliant performer. A powerful 6.3 amp motor and variable SPM (800 – 2800) provide always smooth, controlled cutting, and boasting a low vibration, 5.3 lb design, the jigsaw is easily manageable through even the most intricate applications. The saw has a built-in light to illuminate your cutting edges, thus increasing visibility and accuracy, and sporting a 4-position cut setting system with three orbital settings and one straight setting the tool is designed for diversity. These different cut stations ensure fast, effective, and precise cutting in all applications. Ultimately, the 4341FCT is a dreamy little saw with big power and, perhaps its most selling feature, a surprisingly small price tag as well.

Bosch builds yet another uncommonly good jigsaw ideal for lighter users. Their 1587AVS top handle jigsaw is a fancy little tool designed to yield high-performance results in a small, albeit powerful, machine. The jigsaw boasts a 5 amp motor and a variable speed control dial (500 – 3100 SPM) for the smoothest, most accurate cutting. This speed control coupled with the tool’s four-stage adjustable orbital action ensures the tool’s speed and motion always compliment your current application. The tool additionally offers a sophisticated (and exclusive) multi-directional blade clamp mechanism; this feature provides superior blade guidance and control ensuring your cuts are infinitely on the right track. The 1587AVS is designed with a low position roller guide which enhances blade stability and precision while also touting a low vibration design; this ultimately provides craftsmen with pleasantly smooth and simple operation. This jigsaw is one fiery power tool with the power and precision to brand your home, hobby, and small carpentry projects with a most professional touch.

Ultimately, there are some jigsaws out there that fall nothing short of superior. These models from Bosch, Festool, and Makita represent the finest in the business and will undoubtedly yield the most impressive, satisfying results with every curve, cut, and pattern.

Where Do You Access Criminal Charges Online To Check A Persons Criminal History

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

When you’re employing someone new or you’re doing business with person that you don’t know it’s always good to check a person’s criminal history. This is easier then you think and it doesn’t require a lot of money or time to do it. It even doesn’t require for you to leave the house because you can access criminal charges online. It’s fast and it’s less expansive then hiring a detective agency.

If you want to find someone’s criminal history first thing that you need to do is to go down to the police station in order to access criminal charges. This could be harder than it seems because there are lot of regulations that you need to follow and a lot of paperwork to fill. In order to get access to criminal charges you’ll need to fill a special request form and wait until it’s processed. This process can take up to couple of days depending on the service, so the best thing for you if you cannot wait is to find some other way to get these criminal charges.

You can also hire an agency to find criminal history of your employees but be sure that you can afford their services. 6 Tips For a Winning Marketing Plan

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

Many small business owners find planning their marketing activities a daunting task often creating a feeling of being overwhelmed. There are so many things to consider and so many options to choose from, how will you know what decisions to make? Marketing is an overreaching term used in business everyday to describe a variety of different things, actions and materials that a company uses to attract new customers. It could mean the type of materials you use – logos, business cards, letterhead, brochures, websites etc… or can be interchangeable with the sales team’s activities – tradeshows, networking, conferences, events & cold calling or perhaps it could mean your interaction with your customers – customer services, counter service, distribution service, call center activity etc…

Marketing is about all of those things. It is about the science of making an emotional connection with your customer. One that is strong enough to compel them to take action to purchase your product or service and to develop an ongoing relationship with them so they continue to come back again and again. It is a complex process that once mastered, yields significant results.

A marketing plan is the tool to those results. It helps the business owner build the roadmap to success and with the right approach, winning attitude, and these 9 tips, you will have a winning formula to a successful marketing plan.

Top Internet Business – Which One Best Suits You?

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

If you’d like to make some extra money or even replace your day job entirely, you’ll be glad to hear that you can do like many thousands, even millions of other people all over the world have done and make money working from home. The internet is an enormous global marketplace, meaning that there is always potential for those who are motivated to do so to start an online business and earn an income while being their own boss, living wherever they want and working on their own schedule. There are many different possibilities; the following are some of the Top Internet Business models which you may want to think about if you’d like to go into business for yourself.

Blogging
Blogging won’t make you rich overnight; it can take some time to even begin making money this way in fact, but once your blog is well established you can make a good income from selling ad space. You may also be able to net some sponsorships as well as incorporate other businesses such as affiliate marketing into your blogging efforts. The key is to choose a topic which interests you enough that you’ll want to post regularly – and a topic you know well enough that people will want to keep coming back to see what you have to say. If you can build an audience, blogging can be an easy and fun way to make money from home.

Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a very simple business model; essentially, you’re selling another company’s products in exchange for a commission on every sale which you refer to their website. It’s one of the easiest types of online business to get started in, since all you have to do is to start a website. You can choose to sell just about any product or service you’d like and almost every company who sells anything online offers and affiliate program which you can become involved with. Once you manage to get a regular flow of traffic to your site, you can generate a sizeable income from affiliate marketing while spending only a few hours a month actually working on the site.

Building Membership Sites
This is one of the best ways to generate a regular, sustainable revenue stream. You need to create a site which will appeal to an audience who is willing to pay to have access to your content and the opportunity to communicate with fellow enthusiasts. You can charge a monthly or annual subscription fee for access to your site and if your content is good enough, you can generate a substantial income for what amounts to very little time and effort. Even as the number of members increases, the amount of work you need to put into the site will stay relatively constant; another plus to this online business model.

Ecommerce Business
If you already own a retail business this is a natural step; but even if you have never run a brick and mortar shop, an e-commerce business can be a profitable venture. It is easy to get started since the overhead is very low and if you own a physical store already, you can transition into an entirely online business model if you like. You could either build your own e-commerce site or use services which host your virtual shop and provide software which makes it easy to customize your site and add or edit products as needed.

Infoproduct Business
Information products are an easy sell; people turn to the internet to find information more so than for anything else. If you have a knack for writing and some knowledge to share, you can easily create an e-book, video, audio file or other content which people will happily pay for. You can also create your product and leave the selling to affiliate marketers; this gives your information product a lot of exposure to potential buyers while reducing the amount of marketing work you have to do to nearly nothing.

eBay and Auction Selling
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that there is money to be made by selling items on eBay and other online auction sites. You can even buy items cheaply at thrift shops and yard sales and then sell them in these online auctions. If you have some knowledge about what will sell and can create well written, good looking listings, this can be a very profitable online business model for you.

There are a lot of rewards to be had from working from home and being in business for yourself. Other than the obvious financial rewards and being able to exert some control over how much you earn, there are the less tangible but no less important benefits: being in control of your own schedule, being your own boss and for many the best benefit of all – no more daily commute on crowded highways or subway cars!

How to Qualify for Business Credit Lines

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

As a small business owner having access to funding continues to be a growing concern during these tough economic times. The majority of business owners prefer a credit line because it allows a business to establish a significant amount of cash on demand to make purchases that are too large for a credit card and too small for a loan. However, when it comes to qualifying for a business line of credit many small business owners are left in the dark.

First of all, the best time to apply for a business line of credit is during times of growth and cash flow. Banks are more likely to approve a credit line to a business when it doesn’t need the funds compared to one that is financially strapped. I would strongly encourage you to adopt a ‘dig your well before you get thirsty’ philosophy for your business.

If you think you’re business is just making it fine despite the current economic times and you don’t need the credit line think again! The reality is that your business will at one point require an influx of cash in order to cover unforeseen operating expenses, development, expansion, legal fees, inventory or a range of other items that a business may require in order to grow.

So when you apply for a line of credit and your business is coming from a position of financial strength such as having a strong bank rating, business credit scores, good cash flow and so on the risk is greatly reduced and your chances for getting approved are much greater compared to applying from a position of weakness.

Secondly, it’s much easier to get approved for a $50k line of credit compared to a $100k line of credit simply because of the documentation and amount of financials required on larger credit lines. Most banks only require a low 5 bank rating, a favorable business credit rating, and personal credit scores of 680 or greater to approve a $50k line of credit.

If you are applying for a credit line greater than $50k than you end up having to also provide 2 years of personal and business tax returns, profit & loss statements and financial statements. So you can see the difference in documentation is substantial when it comes to the amount of credit that you are applying for.

Here are my ‘Four Factors to Qualify for a Business Line of Credit’

1. The first factor is your bank balance rating. You will want to aim for a $10,000 balance which rates your business as a “Low 5″.

2. The second factor has to do with how you manage your business bank account. It’s important to avoid bouncing checks at all costs!

3. The third factor is your business credit reports -D&B report, Small Business Equifax, and Corporate Experian should reflect a solid business credit history and scores.

5. The fourth and final factor is having a personal credit score of 680 or greater.

These four factors can improve your chances for getting approved for a business line of credit. The important thing to remember is that banks are in the business to lend money and they make money from the interest they charge. So when they do lend or extend a line of credit to a business there is an amount of risk involved which they want to limit as much as possible.

Prior to applying for a line of credit you can minimize this risk by complying with the four factors I’ve outlined for you and have full confidence in knowing that qualifying for a business line of credit is just an application away.
