This A Rare working ca.1912 #12 Eldred “wireless” Cigar Store Countertop Lighter. This is an Early reproduction done in the 70′s. This uses 2- 6 Volt Lantern batteries that produce a spark through the coil inside. It uses Zippo or Ronson Liquid lighter fluid for fuel. The lighter stands approx. 15″ tall and is very heavy with the 2 batteries inside. This is a used working model of this type of cigar lighter. Originally these were made by the Eldred MFG Co. of Chicago Illinois. They were a familiar sight in drug stores,taverns,hotels lobbies and tobacco shops. Eldred produced them from 1912-1920′s ?. The cabinet to this item is wood and looks to be a medium walnut stain to it. To get to the batteries you need to remove the 4 screws on the back for access. This item is going to be sold on Ebay… You really do not see these come up for sale alot and when you do find a used one, it usually is broken…. You are buying a working lighter… This will not come with batteries or fluid.. You can get 2 6v spring top lantern batteries at your local store along with lighter fluid.. This take ALOT of fluid so make sure to buy 2 containers of it…. Lighter shows a few bumps, bruises and scratches from being used and a vintage item… This is a great conversation piece and be among the few who actually own a working model…. The newer ones are different and take 6 D batteries (newer ones cost between $ $ 600-800 )and this being much older takes the lantern batteries…. I ship my
