I just bought a 98 mustang, And the cigar lighters don’t work, Where is the fuse for them, And how do i remove the one next to the shifter to replace it. I also need to know if it would be easier to run a new wire from the battery, or not.
Thanks =D
I don’t smoke, I need it for my car charger.
I tried all of the responses, and the fuses were fine.

I think the best idea is to stop smoking.
There are two boxes one under the driver side dash and one under the hood on drivers side your lighter fuse should be in the box under the dash to the left of your knee and in the #1 fuse position,
The fuse is under the hood in the fuse box. It’s the one on the top right I believe. You shouldn’t have to replace the lighter for it to work either. Just change the fuse. If you want to change it out, put the car in neutral, pop off the bottom piece around the shifter. It comes off real easy and just pops right back on. You can then unhook the lighter from the back of that and just put a new one in and hook it up to the fuse you unplugged it from.
In my 98 gt, there are two fuses. The one that is most likely blown is the one under the dash,. as whats his face said.
If that doesn’t work then check the fuse in the black box next the battery under the hood. The owners manuel tells the exact fuse location, if you have it that is.
The cigarette lighter may also just be dirty, I’ve have to clean mine several times. Just polish the bottom with steel wool, and check the tap at the bottom of the socket. If it is dirty, clean it. The tab may also just be bent down to far to make a good connection.
If none of that works check to see if you have voltage at the back of the socket, if you do replace the socket, if you don’t then you have a bare wire some where.
